From 25 to 27 September, Argelès-sur-Mer invites you to its Festa Major. Three days of festivities with a Catalan flavour to celebrate its patron saints, Cosmas and Damian. On the programme:
- Friday 25 September – Cabaret des Argelésiens
At 9.00 pm, at the Espace Jean Carrère, the people of Argelès themselves will kick off the festivities for the Festa Major of Argelès-sur-Mer! Music, singing, dancing… our amateur and professional performers have put together a highly festive cabaret evening for you. A great atmosphere and plenty of smiles guaranteed!
- Saturday 26 September – Festa Major, the Festival with a capital F!
From 8.00 am to 11.00 pm, the traditional market and Catalan traditions take over the streets and sweep you up in a festive and friendly whirlwind.
On the programme:
- Traditional festive market.
From 8.00 am to 1.00 pm, on Rue de la République and Place de la République, Rue du 14 Juillet and Avenue de la Libération: a friendly atmosphere, colourful food stalls, local and seasonal produce… What a pleasure to shop in the open air, right in the heart of the village! From 11.00 am, brass bands will lead you on a joyful musical procession through the market alleys and along Avenue de la Libération.
- Catalan festivities in the afternoon, at Place Gambetta and in the village streets. It all begins with the ‘passe-ville’, a traditional procession through the streets involving all the participants. The festivities continue in a vibrant atmosphere where the streets and squares come alive with: a ‘bodega’ organised by the village traders’ association, brass bands decked out in blood-red and gold, sardanas performed by the Foment de la Sardane and ballet (traditional dances), Catalan songs by Els Cantaïres d’Argelers, gegants, castells (human towers)... Not to mention the dazzling correfocs* (fire displays)! A dazzling musical finale
From 9.00 pm, at Place Gambetta, to round off this day of celebrations, a grand surprise concert will sweep you up in a whirlwind of dance, whilst a fireworks display will light up the Argelers sky in a thousand colours.
- Sunday 27 September - Musical Mass
11.00 am at Notre-Dame-del-Prat Church, featuring the Tres Vents cobla and the Cantaïres d’Argelers.
A sardanes dance session at 12 noon on Place Saint-Côme et Saint-Damien. It’s time to put on your vigatanes and come and dance the sardane with the Foment de la Sardane.
The curtain falls at 5.00 pm at the Jaurès cinema. Free admission. The actors from the Théâtre des Trois Coups have put together a series of short plays and sketches to bring the 2026 Festa Major to a close in a spirit of joy and good humour.
