Description
Les Scènes de Valmy, an open-air theatre overlooking the sea, will be hosting the "Classique en août" troupe for a month. Made up of around thirty artists, both professional and amateur, from all over France and from a number of theatre companies, the "Classique en août" troupe will be giving a performance of a great text from the repertoire every evening (except Tuesdays). For this 2026 edition, the artists are offering :
- Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a comedy-ballet by Molière, directed by Benjamin Ziziemsky.
Monsieur Jourdain, a rich bourgeois obsessed with the idea of becoming a nobleman, throws himself into learning the arts and good manners with a fervour that is as comical as it is blind. Surrounded by pedantic masters and self-serving intriguers, he allows himself to be fooled by his dreams of grandeur, much to the despair of his family. Blinded by his ambition and his love for the noble Dorimène, he becomes the unwitting hero of a series of jubilant deceptions, culminating in an extravagant Turkish ceremony that is supposed to usher him into the world of the great.
