  • The ramparts are mentioned in the texts at the end of the 13th century at the time of the Kings of Majorca. Throughout its history, Argelès had to face numerous attacks: besieged by the King of Aragon in 1344, occupation of Roussillon by Louis XI, liberation of the town by John II of Aragon.
    A ditch in front of the rampart is mentioned around 1390. A deed of 1397 mentions the portal of Elne and the portal "del battle" through which one went to the castle of Pujol. The third gate opened...
