The area around Argelès-sur-Mer is rich in medieval remains. It is a very large area, having absorbed several other territories over the course of its history, resulting in a proliferation of village nuclei. This is particularly true of the hamlets of Taxo-d'Amont and Taxo-d'Avall, which raise questions about their origins, their possible links and their evolution over the course of the Middle Ages.
