The town of Argelès-sur-Mer owes its name to the clay soil on which it is built (from the Latin “Argila”: clay).

Argelès-sur-Mer offers several markets: traditional, local and organic markets, night markets, craft markets…
Market days

• At the Tourist Office – Place de l’Europe (Argelès plage)
• At the Médiathèque

Dogs are only allowed on two areas of the beach, on a leash:

• At the fishermen’s parking lot, south of the seawall (harbor area closed to swimming)
• North of P0 (Mas Larrieu nature reserve).

Bathing is prohibited from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Cultural heritage: Notre Dame del Prat church, Casa de l’Albera, Memorial, guided tours offered by Casa de l’Albera, Galerie Mariane (municipal art gallery).
• For our natural heritage: Parc de Valmy, the most beautiful spot in the commune, the Sentier du Littoral walk, the Mas Larrieu nature reserve and guided walks.
